Katro: Giving the US a latro

Can’t stop, won’t stop

After Kusadasi, we spent a few days in the resort city of Bodrum before having to say goodbye to Turkey and head to Greece. Bodrum was nice but very touristy .. Our hotel was huge and felt more like we were on a cruise, as there were a ton of Europeans on holiday (mostly from the UK), large buffets, an awesome pool overlooking the Aegean Sea (in which I swam!), and even a show and a disco. We visited the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, located in the Bodrum Castle, but had most of our two days there free for lounging by the beach and hanging out.

It was bittersweet to leave Turkey, as I really enjoyed learning about the history and culture, and we all loved our informative, humorous tour guide. Of course, I was excited for Greece, and it felt like we were starting a brand new vacation in a way. Due to scheduling issues, we took a ferry to the Greek island of Kos, spent the afternoon there, and then took a really nice, high-speed ferry from Kos to Rhodes, our first planned stop in Greece.

Everyone in Kos and Rhodes was really friendly, and many of the Greeks we have met so far have either spent time in the US or know a relative or friend there. It’s nice to be able to drink tap water if needed and finally eat lettuce since we are in Greece and not Turkey now. However, switching from the Turkish Lyra to the Euro, which is stronger than the US Dollar, was not that fun. More on Greece to come soon!
